The Glens Falls Foundation approved more
than $14,000 in grants to help the WAIT House
in Glens Fall, the Code Blue Saratoga homeless
shelter, the Steps for Stroke program, and the
Historical Society of Moreau and South Glens
Falls.
The foundation gave a $5,000 grant to WAIT
House, a shelter for homeless youths. WAIT
House was established in 1998 and has provided
more than 18,000 bed nights to more than 1,000
homeless youths since its establishment. It offers
a variety of educational and skill-building
programs with the goal of helping homeless
teens continue their education, find jobs and get
into safe permanent living situations.
WAIT House extends its services into family
life as well, assisting families who are at risk of
becoming homeless struggling to maintain a
stable family environment, and seeking to attain
safe, permanent housing.
The Code Blue Shelter, located at the Salvation
Army in Saratoga Springs, provides safe,
warm emergency housing for the homeless when
the temperatures dip below 20 degrees or 12
inches of snow falls. A grant of $5,020 will assist
with the purchase of 20 sleeping cots, lockable
storage bins, a boot fund and other expenses.
The Foundation gave $2,500 to improved access
for disabled visitors at the Historical Society
of Moreau and South Glens Falls at 46 Saratoga
Ave., South Glens Falls.
A grant of $1,535 was awarded to the Steps
for Stroke program to underwrite the cost of developing
informational folders for patients and
caregivers. The nonprofit organization provides
transportation, information and other support
for stroke survivors during the rehabilitation
process.
