The Holiday Inn Resort Lake George, at 2229 Canada St. in Lake George, recently changed ownership.
Vincent Crocitto, the new owner, has a long history of owning hotel and motel properties in the area.
“Why wouldn’t I buy it? It’s beautiful,” he said. “It’s one of the most prominent properties in Lake George. It’s a dream to own it.”
There are only a few Holiday Inn hotels that have received the designation as a resort. In order to receive this status, a hotel must provide full-service amenities and offer a high level of customer service.
At the Holiday Inn Resort Lake George, which has 129 rooms, there are both indoor and outdoor swimming pools. There is also a whirlpool and a sauna area.
It has a fitness center, with a full lineup of gym equipment, for guests looking to exercise while on vacation. Outdoors, there are basketball courts, a miniature golf course and a shuffleboard setup.
TR’s Restaurant, which is part of the resort, recently adopted some changes. The menu now includes more selections. Crocitto is especially fond of the seafood buffet, featured each Friday, he said. It includes clam chowder, steamed clams, salmon, fish tacos, crab legs, and other delights.
The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Children under 12 eat free.
Another unique feature offered at the resort is the Lake Theatre. Guests eat while enjoying entertainment.
Crocitto plans on doing small improvements to the resort each year, in order to keep it in prime condition. He does not plan on any major construction at the moment, but said remodeling the suites and the lounge is in his future plans.
Crocitto purchased the Holiday Inn Resort in May from Michael Hoffman and Brian Straughter. The purchase price was $14 million.
He is also owner of Super 8, a budget hotel also located on Canada St.
He credited part of his success to his staff. Courtney Baker has been working at Holiday Inn Resort for the past six years and was promoted to general manager.
“We have a great management team” he said. “Lake George’s best days are ahead of them” he said. “We have a lot to offer here, even in the winter.”
