Samantha’s Cafe is cooking up a recipe contest and community cookbook, which will also benefit eight local charities. Soup’r Delicious is a joint venture between the new owners, Jennifer Kraft and Liz Wilcox, PR Consultant Lisa Balschunat, of Queensbury, and Real Estate Agent Nina Mucha, Balfour Realty.
The contest gives local residents a chance to show off their culinary excellence, but moreover, gives them a chance to raise funds to support a local charity. “Community members are invited to submit their original soup recipes for the Soup’r Delicious Cookbook. Eight of these recipes will be featured in the cafe during April with 50% of each soup sale donated to their designated charity,” said Liz Wilcox, co-owner of the cafe in Union Square on South Street. Patrons are encouraged to make additional donations to each charity at Samantha’s Cafe throughout the month.
“Soup is one of those comfort foods that usually comes with a back story. We want to know the history of the recipe,” said Jennifer Kraft. “Has it been passed down through generations, was it inspired by a travel experience, or maybe just experimentation with your favorite herb?”
Throughout the month, professional chefs will secretly taste the soups to select the contest winner. The award winner will receive bragging rights for the coming year, first page placement in Samantha’s Cafe and Catering’s Soup’r Delicious Cookbook and a stockpot of surprises. The winner will also receive the coveted “Giant Soup Spoon” award.
“Jennifer and I are most excited about developing the Soup’r Delicious Cookbook that will contain all of the contest entries and their stories,” said Wilcox. “We’re not looking for intense competition, we’re just looking at a fun way to share good food, help our community and enjoy some kitchen history in the process”. Soup entries must be original and must be received by March 15. For an entry form, stop by Samantha’s between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, or download the form online at samanthascatering.com.
