The Red Bookshelf Program circulates new and gently used children’s books into the community, where they are made available free for children to take home and treasure. This Tri-County United Way program, operating in partnership with The Adirondack Rural Health Network and Glens Falls National Bank and Trust Company, has led to the distribution of thousands of children’s books in Warren, Washington, and northern Saratoga counties.
If you have no longer needed children’s books at home, please consider dropping off your books at all area branches of Glens Falls National Bank and Trust Company. Look for bright red ladybug containers at the bank. Volunteers then pick up the books, and they’re given out at the many sites of Red Bookshelves in our area, such as at WIC sites, Salvation Army, Head Start locations, SUNY Adirondack, Moreau Community Center, and many other locations.
This program has been such a success that we’re running short on books to give out to children. Please help us if you can. The goal of this initiative is to increase book ownership; encourage family reading opportunities; and provide a wide range of reading, including books that focus on physical activity and health eating.
For further information call the Tri-County United Way at 793-3136. Thank you for all of the generous donations of books to date; you’ve brought happiness to many children. Help us to continue this community based movement.
