The Great Escape, in partnership with Samsung Electronics America Inc., announced in April an all-new virtual-reality experience ride, Drop of Doom VR, at the Queensbury facility.

“The area’s first-ever drop tower virtual-reality attraction is a thrilling, immersive encounter that combines the fear of heights and the fear of spiders in one heart-pounding experience that only Six Flags could deliver,” the company said in a new release.

Drop of Doom VR makes its debut at the Great Escape in July.

“As we continue to explore the endless opportunities utilizing Samsung Gear VR technology, we can change the content of rides to offer an entirely new experience,” said Eric Gilbert, president of Great Escape Resort Properties Park. “We look forward to giving our guests another reason to visit and make new memories at the park this season.”

Riders, using Samsung Gear VR, powered by Oculus, will become the pilots of a futuristic gunship under attack by mutant spiders, Gilbert said.

Argyle Cheese Farmer To Bring Large Part Of Its Manufacturing Operation To Glens Falls

Posted onMarch 9, 2017November 8, 2017
This is the current Argyle Cheese Farmer facility in Argyle, where it manufactures cheese, yogurt and similar products. The company plans to move manufacturing operations to Glens Falls.

By Jill Nagy

Argyle Cheese Farmer will quadruple its space when it moves into a building on Pruyn’s Island in Glens Falls.

Marge Randles, co-owner of the company with her husband, Dave Randles, said they had been looking, unsuccessfully, for three years for a suitable space in Washington County.

She said they expect to maintain a cheese-aging and packaging facility at the current farm location in Argyle, but most of the rest of the manufacturing operation will probably move to Glens Falls. How quickly the transition takes place will depend, in part, on whether the project is among those approved as part of the Glens Falls Downtown Revitalization Initiative.

The Adirondack Civic Center Coalition Inc. will purchase the ECHL Adirondack Thunder from the Calgary Flames in a deal that ensures continued operation of professional hockey in Glens Falls.

The ECHL board of governors unanimously approved the sale in February, providing coalition representatives with a seat on the ECHL board.

The purchase price was not disclosed, but the coalition is launching a “Keep Hockey Here” fundraising campaign to solicit the additional funds necessary for a successful team ownership. It has already raised $200,000 of the $1 million campaign goal, including contributions from coalition members.

The coalition said any profits generated by the team will be used in support of the team and the Civic Center. None of the Coalition members or hockey board of managers will receive any profits.

“Owning the Adirondack Thunder allows us to control our own destiny and focus on the long-term success of hockey and the Civic Center,” Daniel J. Burke, president of the coalition, said on Feb. 28. “Since the Adirondack Red Wings left in 1999, the community has not had a long-term commitment from a professional hockey organization. That changes today.”

GlobalFoundries announced in February plans to expand its global manufacturing footprint in response to growing customer demand for its comprehensive and differentiated technology portfolio.

The company is investing in its existing leading-edge fabs in the United States, including the Fab 8 plant in Malta, and Germany, expanding its footprint in China with a fab in Chengdu, and adding capacity for mainstream technologies in Singapore.

“We continue to invest in capacity and technology to meet the needs of our worldwide customer base,” said company CEO Sanjay Jha. “We are seeing strong demand for both our mainstream and advanced technologies, from our world-class RF-SOI platform for connected devices to our FD-SOI and FinFET roadmap at the leading edge. These new investments will allow us to expand our existing fabs while growing our presence in China through a partnership in Chengdu.”

In the United States, GlobalFoundries plans to expand 14nm FinFET capacity by an additional 20 percent at its Fab 8 facility in Malta, with the new production capabilities to come online in the beginning of 2018.
